Toolkit

Taking control of your life

Most people know what they want, why they want it and how to get there. However, this has become buried under obligations to others, expectations of self or society and years of living on autopilot/survival mode. Life events such as illness or injury, relationship issues, fertility problems, family breakdown, losing loved ones, redundancy, divorce, and grief can all contribute to overwhelming amounts of stress that weathers us and mould us into something we no longer recognise.

Stressful life events can cause us to experience all sorts of mental and physical health symptoms, from mood swings, depression, anxiety, fatigue, lack of motivation, anxiety, headaches, sleep dysfunction, irritability, high blood pressure, inflammation disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, obesity, unstable blood sugars and the list goes on. Long-term stress can cause changes in the brain that can impact a person’s ability to think, learn, love and engage in the world around them.

My passion and role as an Occupational Therapist and Wellbeing Coach are to help you connect, establish, and affirm the what, why and how in your life, putting you firmly back in the driving seat.

The process: connect and establish

Initial sessions

Exploration

In the first session, I will use tools to help you connect with and conceptualise your current circumstances. This will allow you to focus on what is going well and what areas of your life may lack fun, energy, quality, purpose and/or satisfaction

My role is to facilitate healthy discussions about what life is currently looking like so we can connect with what really makes you tick. During the first session or two, we would explore what is hijacking your mood, energy, and drive and how you can start to tap back into your calmer, more creative ‘flow’ state.

Change that lasts

Personalising your goals

Your personalised goals and intentions will surface as we explore what is important to you. Your goals will often have a New Year’s resolution feel at this stage. This is where motivation seems strong, and a sense of promise and excitement surrounds your goals. However, New Year’s resolutions do not have the best track record for supporting long-lasting change (polls suggest that only 13% of people keep them for four months or more).

This is why the next stages of this coaching process are vital if you really want and are ready for long-lasting change. With my specialist skills in Occupational Therapy and Wellbeing Coaching, I will work with you to connect and establish sustainable life-enhancing change.

Creating your toolkit

Designed for you

There is no one-size-fits-all here. My approach to this and all other process stages would be individualised. I would always consider what kind of person you are to incorporate your learning style, experiences, personality and more before selecting suitable tools. I want this process to be fun and enlightening, and it goes without saying that it is beneficial.

74% of adults reported feeling so stressed at some point in the last year that they felt unable to cope.

The process: affirm and acheive

In your toolbox

'DOES'

Once we understand what you want and why, we can explore how to achieve it. This is where my 15 years of clinical experience in Occupational Therapy, Wellbeing Coaching skills, and first-hand experience of living with chronic stress-related conditions come in. Here, we will confirm which wellbeing tools you’ll use to boost your happy hormones and reduce stress triggers.

I will help you become familiar with using an approach I have termed ‘DOES’. It is an acronym that stands for the neurochemicals (Dopamine, Oxytocin, Endorphins, and Serotonin) that have been scientifically researched to improve health and wellbeing.

Blocks and barriers

Setting you up for success

At this stage, there will be an opportunity to explore any further work needed to remove blocks, barriers, and obstacles to achieve your goals.

You can choose to develop bespoke health management programmes to support you in managing specific health conditions, such as anxiety, insomnia, chronic fatigue, and addictions. You have the option to receive my clinical recommendations summary highlighting any specific programmes you might want to consider now or in the future.

A happier, healthier you

Acheiving your goals

Lives are busy, and demands are high, so carving out space can be hard.

My role is to find the right tools that will work for you and fit with your life to help you honour your goals. Using specific tools to anchor and ‘implement intentions, you can start to affirm, achieve, and sustain change for a happier, healthier you.
